Not to mention that it has rewarded (both financially and through networking) one of my favorite parts of teaching: the reflection, research, and return to content that feeds into the creation of materials.

A well-crafted, engaging assignment can feel like an ephemeral achievement if not shared, as it can really only be used once per class per year.

But then I sat at my desk trying to start a shop, flipping through countless resources that I was genuinely proud to teach and found that none of them could be shared without some serious editing.

What I hadn’t understood before taking this cautious leap into the broader sharing economy was that task creation is so much about personalization.

In many of my works, the flow of the lesson plans was already written into the materials. Grouped lists of student names, references to specific comments in specific discussions, staggered deadlines, page numbers linking to other texts and activities, and regional jokes—all of these were littered with my materials.

Nothing had the glamor of advertising. In order for them to be suitable for a general audience, I had to wipe them off and make them blank slabs. Selling material or even sharing it—Teachers Pay Teachers requires all sellers to offer at least one free resource—would have been an intense project. My colleagues kept my folders and Google Drive links, but my shop didn’t launch.

When Reulbach sees vendors trying to make money from the lessons she creates, she approaches them and asks them to take their materials. “Usually people contact me and say, ‘I’m really sorry,'” and remove the resource from their business, she said.

But earlier this year, she got into an argument with a teacher-salesman that became public. When Reulbach saw one of her graphic organizers for sale at a Teachers Pay Teachers store, she filed a notice with the company’s copyright team and commented on the listing. She also reached out to seller Theresa Ellington on Twitter, asking her to remove the product.

The two went back and forth on the social media platform, with Ellington saying she revised the lesson from a Pinterest post and Reulbach claiming the resource was a direct copy of hers.

To operate on this scale, Teachers Pay Teachers behaves like a typical online marketplace – think eBay or Etsy – where third parties set their own prices and market their own materials, with the company getting a cut of every sale . A lucky few made millions.

But if anyone can upload materials with minimal oversight (the site doesn’t screen materials before they’re made available for sale), quality can vary wildly. A review by the Fordham Institute rated many of the most popular high school English lessons on Teachers Pay Teachers and similar sites as “fair” or “probably not useful.”

Compared to two other lesson-sharing sites, ReadWriteThink and Share My Lesson, materials on Teachers Pay Teachers performed the worst.

And then there are the kinds of lessons that troubled Dupuis the most — those that draw on culturally insensitive, non-inclusive, or racist stereotypes.

Think Critically

Part of the problem may be that teachers don’t always think critically enough about the materials they download and present to students, says Jennifer Gallagher, an assistant professor at East Carolina University who studies sites like Teachers Pay Teachers content quality has.

In an article for Social Education magazine, Gallagher and colleagues looked at seemingly harmless lessons about “QU marriages” designed for young, aspiring readers. In these lessons, students will recreate elaborate wedding ceremonies in white dresses to illustrate that “Q” and “U” are almost always connected when forming words. But the lesson can come with an unhealthy dose of gender and marriage stereotypes.

“I think a lot of teachers rate resources based on how easy they are to use, how cute they are, and how fun they are,” she says. “There’s not necessarily some level of criticism, at least from what we’re seeing: how useful is that and how much does it help me achieve my educational goal?”

These questions are important because platforms like Teachers Pay Teachers are rarely self-regulating, Gallagher adds. “Market forces in general often perpetuate the status quo around things like white supremacy,” she says, particularly the idea of ​​whiteness as the standard.

Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the State of Sacramento has made the difficult decision to cancel, reschedule, or move to a virtual format all in-person events through the last day of the academic year, May 20th. Consequently, the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) will not host or participate in in-person or on- and off-campus events, including Migrant Student Days.

However, if you are interested in a virtual option for your students, the CAMP program can offer them a presentation about CAMP and the state of Sacramento. A virtual campus tour is also offered. Eligibility Of College Assistance Migrant Program

CAMP offers financial and academic support to freshmen with the following qualifications:

1. Enroll as a full-time student (12 credit hours)

2. One of the following:

  • Be a migrant/seasonal farm worker.
  • Be the immediate family of a migrant/seasonal farm worker.
  • Any student who or whose parents have worked at least 75 days in the past 24 months as a migrant or seasonal farm worker.
  • Any student who has attended or is currently attending the Migrant Education Program, the National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP), the Employment and Training Administration or other services and activities established under Section 167 of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).

3. US citizen or permanent resident (green card holder).

4. Earned college credit hours may not exceed 23 for current UNG or transferred students. College credits earned in high school do not count.

5. Must apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

6. Demonstrate one or more of the following needs:

  • Financial need – Pell eligibility; low income.
  • Academic Needs – Low GPA and/or low ACT/SAT scores; limited college prep courses.
  • Personal Needs – First generation student; irrelevant; single-parent household; Housing and/or geographic boundaries.

The Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts Dental Assistant programs offers a library and classrooms equipped with modern audiovisual teaching aids, textbooks and simulators. The teacher-student ratio is 1:12 in the laboratory and 1:30 in the face-to-face lecture and 1:25 in an online lecture.

Classes start every 4 weeks. The program consists of seven (7) didactic/laboratory courses in 4-week blocks. DA 100 Infection Control is taught before students begin any of the other courses. Upon completion of the DA-100 course, students complete all courses. DA 200 to DA 205 are offered regardless of the order. Before starting the DA 300 Externship course, students must complete all teaching/laboratory courses.

Students must be available Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for didactic and laboratory work. During an internship, students may need to accommodate alternate schedules based on the institution’s business hours. Students must be able to complete these specific rotations on the schedule provided.

Students will receive two hundred (200) hours of didactic and three hundred eighty-four (384) hours of laboratory instruction and one hundred and eighty (180) hours of clinical practice. This allows students to apply their knowledge of lecture topics and practical laboratory skills in practice when housed in a dental facility. Students take technical courses that can be delivered on campus, online, or a combination of both formats.

One hundred and eighty-two and a half (182.5) hours is the minimum required part-time work for the student. The curriculum provides students with the technical, clinical, and interpersonal skills needed to succeed in the dental assistant field. A certificate is awarded upon completion of the program. The normal completion time for this program is thirty-two (32) weeks, excluding holidays and vacation periods.

Class times can and may be rescheduled to another day of the week (Sunday to Saturday) to ensure that the program is completed on time and required program hours are met.

    The laboratory lessons are carried out with daily theory teaching and are carried out under the guidance and supervision of the instructor.
  • Outside Work
    Instructors will assign outside work in correlation to daily theory topics and skills. Tasks vary daily depending on the tasks to be completed in the students’ free time and the given due dates.

    The clinical externship involves a student placement in an institution that performs various skills and demonstrates theoretical concepts and hands-on practice opportunities. The externship allows students to assist the institution’s staff with daily tasks in the front and back office under the supervision of the staff. This marks the transition from studying to becoming a dental assistant. The externship serves as an unpaid externship to help students apply learned skills in the classroom. Students have a variety of tasks to complete and document for review. Daily attendance and performance at the site are verified by the facility’s staff.

1. You Must Pass A Credit Check
